Description
This decadent chocolate cake is perfectly moist and filled with a light whipped cream filling, topped with a rich chocolate ganache.

- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually mix in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for about 15 minutes. Then, transfer the cakes to wire racks to cool completely.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread the whipped cream filling over the top, then place the second layer on top.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until just boiling. Remove from heat and pour over the chocolate chips in a bowl. Let it sit for a few minutes, then stir until smooth.
- Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 30 minutes to set the ganache before serving.
Notes
- For an extra touch, add chocolate shavings on top of the ganache.
- Make sure the cake is completely cool before adding the ganache to prevent it from melting.
