Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh cherries, pitted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. Rinse and pit the cherries, then toss them with half a cup of sugar in a mixing bowl until coated.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, remaining sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Gradually stir in milk and melted butter until just combined.
  4. Pour half of the batter into the greased dish. Spread the sugared cherries evenly over the batter, then pour the remaining batter on top.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
