Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 lasagna noodles (regular or no boil noodles for easy lasagna recipe without ricotta no boil)
  • 1 lb ground beef (for easy lasagna recipe ground beef without ricotta)
  • 2 cups marinara or pasta sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions until tender. Drain and set aside. (Skip this step if using no boil noodles.)
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft. Stir in garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  4. Pour in the marinara sauce. Add Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes so the flavors blend well.
  5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a baking dish. Add a layer of noodles, then meat sauce, then mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  6. Repeat layers until ingredients are used. Finish with a generous cheese layer on top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  8. Let the lasagna sit for about 10 minutes before slicing. This helps it hold its shape when serving.

Notes

  • Ground turkey can replace ground beef.
  • Cottage cheese can be used if you prefer an easy lasagna recipe without ricotta or cottage cheese alternative by simply adding extra mozzarella instead.
